The moon is our closest neighbor in space. The moon is about 2,000 miles away. It is our only natural satellite. Do you know what the moon is made of? It is made of iron and rock. It does not have its own light. It reflects sunlight. The moon orbits the earth. It also has craters. It can make a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon is directly in between the sun and the Earth blocking sunlight from the Earth. A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth is directly in between the moon and the sun and Earth blocks the sunlight from the moon. This makes the moon turn red (also known a bloody moon). The moon is one-fourth the size of Earth. Did you know The moon’s temperature is extremely different from Earth’s temperature? In the day it is hot! About 100 degrees Celsius (132 degrees Fahrenheit) to be exact. The moon has very cold nights. It can be as cold as -173 degrees Celsius (-279 degrees Fahrenheit) Wow!
